Special Needs Services

At Southwest Tech, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans. Our Special Needs Coordinator provides vital services to ensure equitable access to education and resources.

• Instructor Preparation: A summary of student needs is shared with instructors to ensure appropriate accommodations are available and to foster meaningful connections between students and their instructors. The Special Needs Coordinator also collaborates with instructors to ensure they have the resources needed to support student success.
• Parental Support: Acting as a resource for parents, addressing concerns, and ensuring students receive the necessary support.
• IEP/504 Meetings: Southwest Tech ensures a representative—either the program instructor or the Special Needs Coordinator—attends meetings and collaborates with sending school special educators to maintain open communication and update plans as needed.
• Accessible Learning Tools: Ensuring students have access to tools like Learning Ally, with most program textbooks available to enhance their learning experience and support academic success.
• Direct Student Support: Providing one-on-one assistance in the classroom and maintaining an open-door policy for students seeking additional help.
• Advocating for Equity: Attending state equity and diversity meetings to ensure compliance and equitable access to opportunities for all students.
